Beijing to offer visa free tours from January

Visitors to Beijing will be offered 72-hour visa-free stays from January 1st, 2013.

Guests from 45 countries, who are in possession of outbound air tickets, will be able to visit the country under the new policy.

However, Vietnam is not included in the list. Most of them are countries in Europe and the Americas.

The facility will promote Beijing’s regional economy, tourism and civil aviation industry as  short-stay travellers will not have to apply for a visa and can take a brief tour of Beijing on the their travels to a third destination.

However, the policy of a visa-free short term stay is not new to China. Shanghai has a 48-hour visa-free policy for travellers from selected countries who are flying on to other destinations.

Countries eligible for the visa-free scheme are: United States, Canada, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Russia, Greece, Brazil, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Brunei, Qatar.
